ABB Chief Executive Ulrich Spiesshofer has quit the Swiss industrial group as the board and major shareholders look for a speedier turnaround at the maker of industrial robots and supplier of factory automation.

According to an ABB press release, The Board of Directors of ABB and its CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer (55) have mutually agreed for him to step down from his role, which he has held since 2013. The Chairman of the Board, Peter Voser (61), will become interim CEO in addition to his current role, with immediate effect. An official search to find a new CEO has been initiated.

Spiesshofer’s abrupt exit follows the launch of the biggest overhaul in ABB’s history to reposition the company more towards digital industries and agreeing to activist shareholder demands to sell its power grids business, including the power transformer division.
