Fire at Jefferson City ABB plant

A small fire broke out at the ABB transformer plant in Jefferson City on Friday morning.
12 firefighters responded to the scene after the fire was reported at around 3 a.m. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, according to coverage by television news station KMIZ.
An accumulation of dust and soot in an exhaust fan led to the fire, which was contained to the exhaust system during the incident. No injuries were reported.
ABB’s facility in Jefferson City produces transformers, according to information on the company’s website, and employs over 700 people. The Jefferson City transformer plant is also part of the $11 billion sale of ABB’s Power Grid business to the Japanese conglomerate Hitachi, which is expected to be completed in 2020.
