Global breakbulk and project heavy lift carrier AAL has delivered a 305-tonne Toshiba transformer to the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm in Victoria on behalf of Australia-based Cargo Line International.
On February 08, operator Goldwind Australia installed the first of 149 wind turbines at the site with the remainder due throughout 2019. Once operational in 2020, Stockyard Hill Wind Farm will produce enough energy to power approximately 391,000 homes in Victoria and save two million tonnes of CO2 annually.
The 600MVA, 500/132kV Toshiba ‘mega-transformer’ measuring 14 metres x 5 metres was shipped from Shanghai to Geelong on AAL’s 31,000 dwt heavy lift MPV AAL Dalian.
“Our civil and electrical contractors, logistics contractors, installation contractor and the global Goldwind team have worked together in the detailed planning stages for this milestone for around six months,” explained project director Andrew Monahan. “It’s been a substantial team effort to ensure the first installation was carried out safely and smoothly.”
AAL Commercial director Christophe Grammare commented: “AAL is delighted to be part of a project that will have wide-reaching economic and community benefits. We’re also proud to contribute to such an important green power project and reinforce our reputation as carrier of choice for a growing number of Australia’s largest renewable energy projects.”
